Unsigned

Entry Rules

Any unsigned musician (from North America) can apply. The admissions process will work in three parts:

Bands/musicians will enter themselves for evaluation into a general pool. This general admissions process will last until November 4th after which no more submissions will be accepted.

Once the admissions process is over, a voting period will begin. Readers will be given the opportunity to vote for their favorite artists, while a diverse panel of VerbicideMagazine.com contributors will vote to narrow down the submissions. Voting will end on November 11th.

Spotlighted musicians in each genre may be contacted for additional materials (info clarification, band photos, etc.).

To apply, just follow the instructions below:

Email your submission formatted exactly as shown to verbunsigned@gmail.com with your band name and genre (chosen from the list below) in the subject field of your email. No submission should exceed a combined 200 words but we’re reasonable. If it’s over by a few words, we won’t kill you, but we don’t need your life story.

Now a few rules and regulations:

  • Contest only open to residents of North America.
  • Entrants who made it to the voting rounds of past contests are not eligible to enter.
  • We are only accepting submissions from unsigned bands/musicians. If you self-publish your music under your own label, that’s fine, assuming you’re not a mid-sized indie label with many bands on your roster. Basically, be honest with your submission. You know if you’re signed or not, and lying is bad karma.
  • If you don’t win, it doesn’t necessarily mean you suck. It could be for a variety of reasons and we don’t have the time to explain it to you in detail. If this contest proves to be popular enough, we’ll do another and you’ll get a second chance. Don’t freak out.
  • Musicians who don’t follow the format we’ve outlined will most likely be disqualified since we don’t have the time or resources to correct the high number of submissions we’ll likely get. Just follow the format and make it easy for everyone.
  • Please don’t continue to contact us to make sure we received your submission or send us your submission multiple times in hopes of increasing your chances. It won’t work. You’ll just annoy us.
