The All Latino Resist Concert at Auditorium Shores on Thursday evening, March 16th, featured a line-up that was muy caliente with Los Angeles-based Ozomalti and Puerto Rican hip-hop artist Residente. Ozomatli got the crowd pumped during magic hour with their fusion of salsa, reggae, and hip-hop. Having his arm in a sling didn’t slow down Asdrubal Sierra from belting out hits “Cumbia de los Muertos” and “Chango” from 1998’s self-titled album.

The tone got more political when headliner Residente, aka Rene Pérez Joglar, took the stage to chants of “Latinos! Latinos!” The former Calle 13 singer took Trump and the fascists to task in between songs such as “Immigrants (We Get the Job Done)” from 2016’s Hamilton Mixtape and latest single “Somos Anormales.” The first of three free evening showcases on the shores of Lady Bird Lake, Wednesday night’s line-up was a nice nod to the Latino population at a time of great political uncertainty with regards to immigration and the proposed border wall.
