Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth Joins Black Metal Band Twilight

Thurston Moore continues to keep busy in what appears to be his post-Sonic Youth career. In addition to being the front man of his new band, Chelsea Light Moving (who are signed to Matador Records), and working with Yoko Ono and his ex-wife Kim Gordon on a collaborative album, Moore has joined the black metal supergroup Twilight. Nachtmystium guitarist/vocalist Blake Judd, also a member of Twilight, revealed this in an interview.

For their upcoming album, to be released this fall on Century Media, the Twilight lineup will consist of Moore, Judd, producer Sanford Parker, Stavros Giannopoulos from the Atlas Moth, Wrest of Leviathan, and N. Imperial from Krieg. Judd hopes to get Isis’s Aaron Turner, Lichens’ Rob Lowe, and Malefic of Xasthur to also contribute.

The future of Sonic Youth has been uncertain since Gordon and Moore separated in fall of 2011. In April, guitarist Lee Ranaldo — who released a solo album earlier this year — stated that the band’s future was “up in the air,” and “we’ll see what the future holds.” (via P4k)
