Verbicide Unsigned Spotlight: Alexa Borden
Who are you?
Alexa Borden (songwriter, vocals, piano), Cameron Lemco (guitar/drums), and Brent Venema (bass).
Where are you based out of ?
We proudly reign from Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Your music sounds like?
I’ve always said that if a heart could speak, my music is what it would say. My music’s arrangement is piano-based and ethereal. It can be soft and poignant and bring you to tears, but it can also be wild and strong.
How did you discover music as a creative outlet?
I was about 13 years old when I wrote my first song. I was feeling a bit sad. I then realized writing that two-minute song had a healing effect on me. At that moment, I knew I wanted to have the same effect on others and heal them through music too.
What’s the best part of being an independent musician, and how do you get the message out about your music and connect to fans?
I have complete control of the reins and creative process as an independent artist. No one is telling me how to be, what to write, or what to sell. Twitter has saved my career in the sense that I can connect to people on the other side of the Earth. It’s amazing to be able to reach fans who are so far away.
What are your future musical projects and goals?
Currently we are working on my sophomore record, The Cherry Bomb Tree, which should be completed in the spring of 2012. Some day I hope to tour Europe and all of North America. I just hope to make music and records for the rest of my life.
