The bastard love child of Vampire Weekend, the Go Team!, garage rock, and Kimya Dawson, Chikita Violenta is certainly all over the popular indie rock map onTRE3S. The band remains focused around upbeat, danceable, friendly tunes such as “The Pause” and “All I Need Is a Little More.” It actually ends up being the more acoustic sounds of “My Connection” that feel most natural for the group and showcases their style in a more appreciable way. Then again, maybe a band hailing from Mexico City on a Canadian record label should sound a little bit all over the map.
