While I first expected this to be a story relating to the fictional cartoon side of the Gorillaz — like, Murdoc and 2D had a falling out causing the former to leave the band and create his own “solo” project — you know, something like that — it appears that the humans behind the animated curtain are pulling the plug altogether.

Consequence of Sound reports that a series of “angry rows” between Damon Albarn (Blur) and artist Jamie Hewlett have effectively ended the band. Albarn hinted in the Gorillaz last performance in early December in Auckland, New Zealand that the end may be near for the band; as it turns out, it was the last ever Gorillaz performance. Albarn is currently at work with Blur and writing an opera.
