Garotas Suecas – Codinome Dinamite
Garotas Suecas come raging from Sao Paolo, Brazil — five boys and a girl playing fuzzed-out, psychedelic garage rock nu-Tropicalia. Influences range from Otis Redding to Os Mutantes. Imagine ? and the Mysterians jamming it out with Gilberto Gil, and you might have an idea how fun this band can be. Better yet, listen to the music. Better better yet, see them tear it up live.
Garotas Suecas (“Swedish Girls” in Portuguese) comprises Guilherme Saldanha (vocals and harmonica), Irina Bertolucci Chermont (organ), Perdido (bass), Sesa (guitar) and the Paoliello brothers, Nico (drums) and Tomaz (guitar). With six members, the band’s sound is fiery, funky and full-bodied — an infectious and danceable organ-drenched brew. Their live show burns dance floors wherever they take it. Already MTV Video Award winners in their native Brazil have just completed a brand new music video for fiery “Bugalu.” Garotas Suecas are now primed to take the States on at full gallop.
