ASOBI SEKSU – Rewolf
reviewed by Garrett Lyons
Asobi Seksu stripped away the ornate elements of dream-pop and got back to basics with Rewolf. The entire album is acoustic with everything as lo-fi vocals, piano, or acoustic guitar and the occasional marimba.
Rewolf was recorded in one session at London’s famed Olympic Studios, and takes a wide variety of singles, B-sides, and album cuts from previous records and rearranges them for an acoustic sound. The album has the raw feel of Stephen Stills’ Just Roll Tape but retains the beautiful vocals and intricate arrangements of electric Asobi Seksu. The whole sound is a relaxed bit of beauty that appeals to Asobi Seksu fans and those who never got into the band in the first place.
