JESSIE TORRISI – Bruler Bruler

reviewed by Garrett Lyons

Bruler BrulerBruler Bruler is a mellow, inoffensive, and slightly twangy collection of female singer-songwriter folk music. If you’re lazy, you can stop reading this review now. Seriously. Bruler Bruler is a truly unremarkable album. The country influence is nice, and Torrisi’s vocals are always on the mark along the lines of a Norah Jones-type singer, but so is just about every other singer of the genre.

The lyrics are the same type of man-loving/man-hating/world is great/world is terrible material that you can hear anywhere. There is simply nothing to be inspired by on this album — Bruler Bruler isn’t a terrible record; it just simply is what it is. If you like the style of music, then this record will fit in your collection if you have an extra space on your shelf. If you never liked singer-songwriter folk, then Bruler Bruler isn’t likely to turn you on to the style.
