AMISH ELECTRIC CHAIR – Straight, No Chaser

reviewed by Brian McKinney

Straight, No ChaserI read three paragraphs about Amish electric fireplaces (as seen on TV!) before realizing that I was on the wrong website. Thanks a lot, Bing…

Amish Electric C-H-A-I-R.

Amish Electric Chair once had their tour van stolen after it broke down in Tennessee. Apparently, the band sleuthed their way to the hijacked van and stole it right back. Nicely done. The incident inspired one of the five songs on their new EP, the aptly titled, “Jellico, Tenn.” The song is a two-minute ode to the intrinsic worth, or lack thereof, of Jellico, Tennessee. The chorus is a resounding, “Fuck you, Jellico Tennessee.” Why not?

Straight No Chaser is a meager 10 minutes in length, but more than makes up for the time deficit with huge doses of DIY punk attitude. AEC are do-it-yourselfers in many ways, even going so far as recording, mixing, and mastering their own albums. They even plan on spending the whole of 2010 touring in anticipation of a 2011 full-length release. That shows they’ve got the right business chops to go along with the musical chops. If you like attitudinal DIY punk, then strap yourself into the Amish Electric Chair and prepare to ride the lightning. Ba-zing!
