AMY MILLAN – Masters of the Burial
Amy Millan steps away from Stars and Broken Social Scene for her second solo album. Masters of the Burial is a stellar collection of delicately constructed singer/songwriter folk with astounding vocals. The influence of her fellow Broken Social Scene members Leslie Feist and Emily Haines shows through in the delicately feminine vocal delivery, especially in the gorgeous “The Finish Line.”
“Day to Day” is one of the few tracks in this style of music that does anything to push the genre to a new level. “Day to Day” abandons the usual cadence of folk and adds a heavy beat to the style that comes truly expands what the genre can do.
Masters of the Burial is a fabulous record from start to finish, with masterful vocals and austere music making for a brilliant listen. This is more than worth a listen: it’s worth putting in a picture frame on your wall and staring at its magnificence.
